Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna 2024
Ka Hula O 'Aulani is pleased to sponsor our 8th annual Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna festival!
Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna – the elegant hula of seniors – is a special event dedicated to showcase and honor our treasured senior community and their love of hula through a non-competitive display of hula presentations. We also have the pleasure of well-known Kumu Hula (master teacher in the art of hula) Ula Hewett, from Hawaii travel to emcee the event and teach additional hula workshops for that weekend, so it is truly a special occasion in Southern California.
Cheer on our kūpuna as they take the stage on September 28!

Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna 2023 - Welcoming the Public
Our theme for 2023 is Holomua – move forward. With the pandemic behind us, we must continue to move forward with gratitude and grace, and it is with this in mind that we decided to move forward and expand our event to our larger community. This year we hosted the event at Laguna Country United Methodist Church in Laguna Woods, CA and were thrilled to share our love of hula with the public for the first time!
Once again, we are blessed to have Kumu Ula Hewett emcee the event and also teach four hula workshops! Mahalo to John Bryant, Papa S., Eric B. and Kumu ‘Aulani for capturing some of the highlights!
Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna 2022 - The Year We Got Back Together!
Ka Hula O 'Aulani is proud to sponsor our 6th annual Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna festival and our theme this year is HOPE (manaʻolana)! For so many of the challenges weʻve faced, especially these last 2-3 years with the pandemic, it is with HOPE that we are able to rise above it all and continue to do the things we need to do... and love to do. And we all know one of those things is hula!
We were thrilled to welcome Kumu Ula Hewett, daughter of Lehua Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, as emcee this year! Enjoy some of these memorable moments captured by Papa S. and Kumu ʻAulani!
2021 - The Year That Was…Still Kinda Different
It appears that more businesses are re-opening and people are slowly gathering in-person again! Although this is great news and something we have longed for, we still need to take precautions to continue to keep our beloved kūpuna safe. We will do our part by turning Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna into a virtual event this year. Ka Hula O 'Aulani is so excited to once again shine the hula spotlight on our dear kūpuna in a friendly, non-competitive VIRTUAL showcase!
This 2-day virtual event will start with an online hula workshop with Lehua Kawaikapuokalani Hewett followed by streaming of kūpuna hula presentations on the second day.
2020 - The Year that Was…Different
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, this year's Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna festival has been canceled, but we still wanted to shine the spotlight on the beauty and importance of this event which showcases our kūpuna performing hula.
We share special messages from the groups who have performed over the last three years, memories from past cultural workshops, and talk story with with the visionary of the festival and a special guest - a living legend of Hawaiian culture, music, and hula!
Please enjoy the videos and photos!
